You're Christy? Hmmm....

This dialogue took place between the fellow who saw me in clinic yesterday and myself...

Fellow (looking back and forth between me and my chart): Christy?

Me: Yes

Fellow: You're Christy?

Me: Yes

Fellow: Wow. Ok.

Silence as he looks at me and my chart several more times.

I smile.

He looks puzzled.

Fellow: You have quite the history.

I smile.

Fellow: I heard about your story a month or so ago.

Me: I keep hearing that.

He looks at chart again. Has puzzled look on his face.

Most of you CFers have heard the line before from others.. "Well, you don't LOOK sick." I guess the fellow was expecting me to look half dead. I wanted to say.. "Do you see anyone else in here with a moon face and a "manstache" from prednisone?", but of course there was no one else in the room.

I so get the manstache! I was on predisone for a LONG time because of my back...nasty stuff. The stache and about 50 pounds came to visit me.

MANSTACHE!!!! HA!!! That is hilarious.

There have been so many times that docs look at me and can't figure out how the person in the chart is you. I think us CF'ers, as well as we are doing, or as sick as we are at the time, tend to cover it well.

I guess it's a compliment by the docs, but it's hilarious, because sometimes they just don't quite connect. It's like....HELLO!!!!!

I've had people not believe I was ready to be hospitalized, when I just know how to push through, and cover it up.

Bah! Whateves you are gorgeous! Manstache or not. Maybe you can twist the ends of the stache and go, "Muahaha" the next time someone new checks out your chart?

We get the same with Rickie! Yet, most of the time he has such dark circles underneath his eyes he kind of looks a bit sick, along with him being so pale! People do except him to be half dead though!

I think the people in the office at his school think I'm half making this stuff up!! He can be at school one day looking fine and then be in the hospital for 3 weeks the next!

You are too funny...did you have a witty come back to him? I always wish after the fact, that I could of thought of something!

Remember in the movie "You've got mail" when she really wants to be able to say the perfect comeback right after someone has taken a jab at her, and then she does. She feels so good (even though what she said was mean). Sometimes I wish I was witty enough to come up with things to say right away. I'm working on it.

I didn't have a witty comeback. :(

I had been waiting in the room for about 45 minutes and usually I only have to wait about 10 minutes or so. I was getting very impatient, so all I could think of was getting the appointment over with and out of there. :)

oh nutzy i had to laugh at this one, i had mikey read it and he also laughed. he said why do doctors of all always say, you dont look sick, are you sure you have cystic fibrosis? its so true, just because you dont look like your on deaths door really dosent mean anything anymore. and you having new lungs then having to have a kidney TX you would think a doctor would know better right? but really you cant blame them, this is something they learn in medical school..... but you can be a teacher to them all you already have proven the " cf world" wrong. you have had 2 TX and overcame them both. you are so strong i believe you can handle just about anything thrown your way...
love ya
