Thoughts about voting

So many people are quick to say... "I don't care who you vote for, as long as you vote." That's such a common phrase this election. Celebrities and networks have devoted many hours of their time driving that thought into our minds. I have also seen it on many people's blogs and in many emails.

I have to add something to that. People need to get informed before they vote. I don't believe in voting for someone just because your parents always voted for that party, or just because it's the "cool" and popular thing to do. I believe in getting informed and researching the candidates and knowing where they stand on each issue before you cast your vote. I believe that if you "just vote" without doing all of this, you are doing everyone, especially yourself, a disservice.

That's all I have to say about that!

One of my favorite quotes from my favorite TV show, The West Wing, address it. There are a bunch of young girls making campaign posters that say "It doesn't matter who you vote for, just vote". One of the main characters points out that this is a bad thing to say and changes it to "No matter who you vote for, vote". That small change in wording implies a lot... it implies that you do need to do your research. I always watch both conventions, even though I strongly trend Dem. I read the issues that I vote on every time... it is something that was drilled in to me from a young age by both my parents and one of my favorite teachers.
